October 2016: "A Traveling Exhibit Celebrating Children's Books"
Muriel Feldshuh is a literacy consultant and former library teacher with a beautiful idea, to create an educational and inspiring traveling exhibit that brings together children's literature and quilting.
Last year, Muriel extended me a kind invitation to participate. Of course, I was eager to join Muriel in "celebrating children's books."
Now with the addition of her newest quilt titled "Picture Books are HOT!," the Traveling Exhibit series is composed of eight unique, hand-crafted quilts.
The individual art squares were contributed by 210 children's book illustrators and authors. For over ten years, this free exhibit has traveled across the United States to sixteen children's museums and several libraries so far. Reading programs, events, and workshops for children are offered alongside the quilts to promote literacy.
Below is my fabric square which is part of Muriel's eighth quilt. It features the two main bunny characters from my first picture book MINE! I am very proud to be contributing to this exhibit and look forward to seeing in person what I think Muriel said was her largest quilt yet.
